About Us

Sherry & Bill
Hi. We’re Sherry and Bill. Sherry is the gardening expert (she denies it) and Bill is the designer (garden and website) and blogger.
It was Sherry’s idea for a gardening website. She had been watching me work on my other websites (Rooms With Great Views – a travel site, and Learn Spanish, Travel Spanish – just what it sounds like), so when she said that she wanted a website about gardening in the city, I thought that she wanted one of her own. It was only after this site was up and running that she let me know that, no, she didn’t want to do it. She was too busy (after all, she’s retired now). She wanted me to do it. So, after much conversation, we compromised and did it her way. She does most of the gardening (I do the heavy lifting), with all of its variety and projects and research, and I write about it. And together we will build the other pages about all the gardening resources available to the gardeners in our area.
We publish sporadically, so if you want to keep up with what we’re posting, subscribe to RSS or the newsletter email reminder so you won’t miss anything. Just click on where it says “subscribe by E-Mail” just under the blog title.
We appreciate comments and will even try to answer questions, so bring ‘em on. We’d like to know what your gardening interests are, what problems you’re having and what you would like for us to write about. And please feel free to tell us what you think about the look, feel, usability and value of our new site.
If you want to see our garden, open the Categories box in the upper left hand corner of the website and click on (you guessed it) Our Garden. Or you can click back (at the bottom of each page) to start at the very beginning. The first posting was “Welcome to Our Garden in the City”, so to start at the beginning, copy and paste that into the “search this site” box. We hope to hear from you. Until then…. Happy Gardening.
hey, website looks great!!!
I loved the blog/site! I am interested in rainbarrels so any imput you have is apprecaited, since we live on a well… I also want to slowly add onto our flower garden her in the north.. but I don’t know a weed from a plant, and it doesn’t matter because I seem to kill it all.. What/Where do you suggest that I read about gardening… planting.?? Some of the books that I looked at, I didn’t buy because they were 90% advertisement and 10% about gardens. I want to plant things that come back every year and I want to have different thing blooming thoughtout the year.
Kelly (brownthumb club president!) lol
Thanks for the kind words. We have 3 rain barrel posts coming up, about mid October. We publish every Monday and Friday morning. Sherry says that my “cheap date” is to take her to Borders or Barnes and Nobles, buy a coffee and sit and read for two hours. We take a notepad and write down websites, recipes, whatever interests us. It’s a good way to read about gardening. The link above (Garden Resources) has a couple of things you might be interested in, including Cold Climate gardening (under Blogs on the Resources page). You’ll need to know your planting “zone”. After that, just use your search engine to hunt for things. The more specific you are, the more detail you’ll get. Try “gardening blogs” for some interesting sites. Good luck on getting started. Keep us informed.
you two are going to be very busy bloggers!
Probably so. This isn’t our only site. Look in the right sidebar for our other websites. Not all of them are blogs, and some will only be short informational blogs. This site will probably have the longest blogs (ironically, the easiest to write). We heard you were due to be back. Look forward to seeing you. Bill
I’ve got to hand it to you.. between this gardening site and your other sites like that spanish traveling one.. you guys are on the move. Keep it up.
We try to keep busy. Our latest effort is http://www.roomswithgreatviews.com. It’s off to a great start, but I have to tell you, that monitoring all of these great travel photos really makes me want to go somewhere. Ah… time and money.
