Our Christmas Report

From our home to yours.

From our home to yours.

Well…. we had quite a bit of snow this week.   As the song says, “the weather outside is frightful…”  We don’t know if the kids (and grandkids) will be able to come home this week or not.  We’re playing it by ear.  The weather channel calls for rain on Christmas day, but it’s going to be at or below freezing both the night before and the night of Christmas, and the kids live in Asheville NC, so the weather is sure to be worse there.   So, we’ll see.

We’ve had an eventful year.  Sherry has been “officially” retired for 19 months.  She originally joined a couple of garden clubs, but has decided that she prefers less structure, so she gets together regularly with a group of gardening friends.  There are about a dozen in all, I guess, and they visit each others’ gardens and go to plant swaps together (not as a group, but these two here, that one there).   Once a month or so, they have a group luncheon at someone’s home.   She likes it that way.   More one on one time, and more diversity.

She’s done a lot of work in the garden this year, but this time of year there’s not much to do and not much enthusiasm for doing it.  So she’s gotten back into quilting for the winter.  She’s fairly far along on a lovely quilt and is joining a quilt “club” in January and will start another quilt there.  It’s been a long time since she’s done much quilting, so she’s enjoying it.  The gardening will pick back up in March when we start getting all those plant catalogs.

We hope that you and yours have the best holiday season ever.  Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or the Winter Solstice, we wish you the very best.  For us, that’s Merry Christmas.

Upcoming stories:  Trees, Porches and Sidewalks, and The Bones of a Garden.  By the way, in the sidebar on the right, there’s a spot that says “Upcoming Articles”.   That’s to let you know what the next few blogs will be.  They’re dated.  Happy Holidays.
